Zensical is prototype of a successor for MkDocs (which is unmaintained), brought by the developers of material for MkDocs. Though still a prototype, it is quickly gaining traction due to compatibility with MkDocs.

Pull request overview

This PR adds Zensical to the tech radar catalog by introducing a new JSON metadata entry under data/software-tools/, describing it as a prototype static site generator for technical documentation.

Changes:

  • Added a new tool entry for Zensical, including URL, license, usage modes, and quality dimensions.
  • Marked it as a prototype tool and linked it to the “software_has_documentation” quality indicator.

Since Zensical is still in early development phases, I am unsure if it fits our criteria Frequently used on research software but am open to discussion

You're right that its still in very early stage, its probably better to wait for it to mature and see its usage in research before adding it to the radar.

The status of MkDocs is quite unclear to me at the moment though, see this, this and this discussions.
