Since level 3 pipeline outputs do not have detector-based files, the exposure-level page (e.g. https://jwql-test.stsci.edu/NIRSpec/exposure/jw06154-o003_v000000018_nirspec) is essentially exactly the same as the detector level page (e.g. https://jwql-test.stsci.edu/NIRSpec/jw06154-o003_v000000018_nirspec_f170lp-g235m)
Given that, we could save users clicks by not forcing them to go from the exposure level page to the detector level page in cases with a single "detector" (like all level 3 files).
{}Initial thought{}: since the detector-level page shows a larger version of the preview image and contains the JDAViz frame, it would save users an extra click if we could have the thumbnails on the observation level page link to the detector level page for level 3 products. Note that we would also need to remove the View Exposure button from the detector level pages where this happens.
If the logic is the same, we could also remove the exposure level pages for all MIRI and NIRISS files, since those instruments each have only a single detector. But that can be captured in a separate Jira ticket if we want to separate that work from the level 3 work.
{}After discussion{}: Trying to deal with Previous/Next buttons and keeping everything such that typical users' navigation remained the same led us to decide that in fact, updating the exposure level page to essentially mirror the appearance and function of the detector-level page would be a more straight-forward change. (e.g. detector-level pages have no Previous/Next buttons, so these would have had to have been added in some but not all cases. How would the buttons work when moving from level 2 exposures with multiple detectors to level 3 files with a single detector, etc).
Acceptance Criteria:
- For all modes, the observation-level page continues to link to the exposure-level page as before
- Add the JDAViz frame and jpg/jdaviz radio buttons to the exposure level page for cases where there is only a single detector (e.g. all level 3 files, all MIRI, NIRISS files)
- Enlarge the preview image size on the exposure level page for cases where there is only a single detector such that it matches what is currently used on the detector level pages.
