Opensim-GUI doesn't work in WSL2 Ubuntu 22.04.5

I installed Ubuntu 22.04.5 to WSL2 in Windows 11, from the clean slate.
And then installed OpenSim core and OpenSim-Gui in this order.

• In both cases I followed their build instructions, the only thing I did was to "chmod +x" the build file for the OpenSim-gui.
• No error in both cases.
• But when I started the opensim-gui with "gtk-launch opensim" command from the command line, the main visualizer that should show the 3D environment, muscles etc is not showing anything.
• I have tried many examples and tried manually opening from the tabs above. But nothing.

I'm reporting the same result running the 4.6-2025-09-17-69cbaf6 build on Ubuntu 24.04. There is no 3D viewport at all.

I ran it in a Docker container with some minor tweaks, like getting rid of sudo calls in the install script and manually installing libgconf-2-4 and gconf2-common (those are long deprecated and not present in Ubuntu respositories.)

It seems that the "business logic" is working - it loads models, runs simulations etc. Unfortunately, it's useless if it doesn't display the actual 3D model.

I understand that Linux is officially unsupported, but it would be nice to have some idea how to debug this. The opensim binary doesn't print any debug info to stdout/stderr.

The visualizer window is actually a browser window embedded in the application. It uses the jxbrowser third-party library for the embedding. It's hard to tell if the proper jar files for your environment are available for jxbrowser. I suspect ubuntu 22 is more modern than the release of jxbrowser we use on windows/mac. We're in the process of upgrading jxbrowser though so maybe afterwards we can re-evaluate.
