Not boot with Banana Pi M5 build update 2025-12-29.

I tried Debian stable/13.2 ("trixie") but it was not boot.

I can boot to from EMMC if BPI-copy sd-card.img to dev/mmcblk1. Just found that no Desktop GUI.

hello, I also cant boot trixie into my banana m5. It stops at "starting kernel" with those current images (2026-01-05)

i've tried it on sdcard and emmc.

can you give more details of what you did that make it work?

Did you use bpi-tool (bpi-copy) to copy image to eMMC?
For example.
sudo bpi-copy trixie.img /dev/mmcblk1

Man, I've managed to make it work. I used dd.

I think I was using the wrong device, i m not sure.

Just here to say this worked with recent johang.se builds.

Also, because I wasn't sure, I have to clarify that I reused the sd-card.img from both boot-banana_pi_m5.bin.gz and debian-trixie-arm64-ejed3i.bin.gz zcat use on sd-card-image johang homepage, and not only debian trixie build, and secondly I had installe these after apt update then apt install curl pv zip sudo and finally use gparted to resize space on my SD Card to have enough space for sd-card.img.

Then did sudo bpi-copy sd-card.img /dev/mmcblk1 and w00t my system is up !

Just coming by again to tell people that would arrive here that I ended up using armbian (some GPIO stuff wouldn't work with Johang builds but maybe I mixed it all up with incompatible Trixie Kernel 6.13 so Johang builds are not the cause of my troubles ahah), by curling armbian img from live sd card then flashing it to emmc with dd like this : sudo dd if=armbian_bookworm_xfce.img of=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=10M status=noxfer then rebooting
