questions about compiling on windows

Hello, what's the best way to use Cosmopolitan on Windows?
Also, what's the difference between the amalgamation and cosmocc?

Should I use cross9.zip with cosmopolitan.zip,
or should I use cosmocc-4.0.2.zip with cosmos-4.0.2.zip, running it via bash and dash (renamed to sh) and using cosmocc?

Can I use the amalgamation with cosmocc?
What's the best way to compile for bare metal?

nothing works on windows
or documentation is outdated

I tried to rename cosmocc to cosmocc.exe and run it from cmd, but windows tells that cosmocc.exe is not a program

holy 👀 big thanks for the reply, but this solution is not portable :( Seems like cosmo is not ready for windows

what exactly do you mean by not portable? do you mean the compiler? it's bootstraped and will run no problem on windows, the only real issue is lack of .exe, which is why bash is required

i wish include cosmo/bin from any directory in PATH and it should work as drop-in replacement for regular gcc
seems like new "cosmocc" works only from bash which is not suitable to work with VSCode

cosmocc is literally a bash script (that handles the other compilers) there is no other way to use it without bash
I have never used VSCode in my live tho
you may think since the compiler is bootstraped it runs natively on windows and we could rewrite cosmocc in something else
that's not possible, because the compiler will call the compiler without ".exe" making anything other than bash have a stroke
also make sure cosmos IS EXACTLY IN C:\bin
it makes bash think it's /bin/
the location of cosmocc does not matter until cosmocc's bin is in path
this setup (and batch script) worked well for me when I was on windows

There is a way: make it an .ape file.

bash does not handle env paths. So it is unusable in portable way.

really? didn't know that
are you sure when renamed the compiler will properly call cc1 ld ect if renamed with .ape?
that way the need for cosmos, bash, and cosmocc could be removed
