Request: Ability to mark pane or window as "Archived"

I think it would be super neat if I could enter the "Handling Pane" submenu, press 'a' and send it to some window where archived panes go. This could be quite extensible or not. E.g. you could have the option of asking the user to input a title (which would function more as a description) for the pane that is about to be archived. Or you could prepend the timestamp of when it was archived.

As far as archiving windows, they could be sent to a dedicated "Archived Windows" session.
I don't know how difficult it would be to implement this, but I think this would be super useful for a lot of folks.

It's certainly easy to do what you suggested, but I'm not sure I understand how it would be practical.

Not saying you're wrong, more that I'm not aware of what benefits it would offer.

I open and close pane almost constantly for various tasks. Every now and then I leave a pane up when I'm done with it, if I might need to see some cmd output a bit later, but at least in my workflows it's rare enough that they never become an issue.

So for me saving tons of panes to an Archive session doesn't sound very practical.

If you later go to this Archive session and find 30+ panes, the panes would be so squeezed that you wouldn't be able to read the pane title unless you resize every pane one by one. So dumping them to a dedicated Session wouldn't really scale much beyond 10-20 panes before becoming unpractical.

You also need to remember that once the tmux server is shutdown, even if you use the plugins tmux-continuum & tmux-resurrect all that is restored is the name of the pane, the cmd that was running there, and the CWD for it. The previous text output in the pane would be lost.

If your intent is to save what is printed in a pane when important, you already have that under Handling Pane - Pane history - Save pane history (with or without escapes). This saves the pane content to a text-file, so can be seen as an archive of the session I guess.

If you still think this archive feature would be useful, please expand of the intended purpose. I wouldn't mind adding new features, but first I need to understand what it is :)

You make some good arguments. For me, the main use case is to archive Claude Code chats that I may want to jump back into in the near future. Of course, CC has the 'resume' functionality, but I think it's also convenient to keep some of them in their respective tmux panes. I just mark them as deprecated by changing the name accordingly. Then I move them to a different window and/or session.
