Why do we need a bonding device on the receiver?

It'd be useful to explain the need of a bonding device on the receiver.

what if I have multiple interfaces in the machines I am using? Which one should be bonded? Generally I have multiple interfaces: one for ssh/control and second for actual data transfer for the tests we are running. Some clarification around this would be helpful.
