Searching for "~" in quick outline view doesn't display the destructor

Using LSP4E version 0.13.8.

When I open the Quick outline view (Ctrl + O), searching for "~" does not display destructors. It used to work with the legacy environment.

All about versions

The versions in the Eclipse eco system can be quite complicated, as there are project, feature, and bundle versions and they may all be different because of semantic versioning.

Using LSP4E version 0.13.8.

I'm not sure whether this is a typo or not, but LSP4E 0.13.* release series dates back to 2019 and is not supported. Perhaps this version was from a bundle called org.eclipse.lsp4e.jdt that was version 0.13.8 until recently?

I tested with the 2025-09 and 2025-12 SimRel release, the latter of which contains these project versions:

Well, I'm always confused with the versions. I've just updated, here are the appropriate screenshots:

I've tested again after the update. Searching "~" works when searching in a header file, but doesn't when searching in cpp file.

Thanks - that was the key. I see the same thing. Until it can be fixed, the workaround is to add a star, eg. type *~

The reason this works in CDT and not CDT LSP is that CDT applies the filter text to the whole string, and each :: separated component of the string. The key code is here.

For CDT LSP the default string matcher is used, which checks patterns against each word in the tree. (key code here) - but that code splits on non-characters, so the ~ is ignored.

So for CDT, the input: MyClass::~MyClass is split into MyClass and ~MyClass and each is checked (along with the full string) against the user typed pattern.

For CDT LSP, the input: MyClass::~MyClass is split into MyClass and MyClass, since the ~ is dropped then ~ isn't matching the individual words. The workaround of *~ will match against the full string MyClass::~MyClass

The StringMatcher is used via FilteredTree as used by LSP4E here.

I am not sure the correct level to interject here. One option may be to have LSP4E always add * so matches work within words all the time (i.e. call PatternFilter.setIncludeLeadingWildcard).

Does anyone want to pick up this issue. @jaunis-ateme are you interested in looking into this?
