How do I make tapping a key on my secondary numpad behave like I'm holding a modifier key, until I tap that key again?

Sorry if this has already been disscused or explained in the documentation. I have tried my best to understand the info avalable, but I am still lost and confused.

I would like the ability to hold modifier keys like Shift and/or Control, without having to actually hold them, so that I can select multiple items with my mouse, using only one hand.

I would like to remap the Home key on my secondary numpad to perform this task. So tapping Home on my numpad should result in the Control key being held, until I tap Home again, which should release the Control key.

I have also tried using AI to help me find the solution, but it seems that todays AI isn't really that intelligent 🤣

• DeepSeek says that it's not possible without also making use of AutoHotkey, but I'm not sure if that is true.

My current very basic configuration is as follows, so at least I know that capsicain is working as it should:

The 'tapped modifiers' feature will only modifiy the next keystroke.
What you ask for, if I understand correctly, is a "modifier locking" feature. I implemented that once, just because I could, but removed it because I cannot think of a single use case. Other than CapsLock and NumLock, of course, which are standard.

You could map home to a combo that triggers Windows "sticky keys", which is AFAIK pressing a modifier 5 times to lock it (make it 'sticky').

That is correct, I was hoping for a modifier locking feature.

The use case is a mobility issue as my left arm is temporarily out of action and I need to hold Control while selecting multiple items with my mouse.

As you can imagine, this is quite tricky with only one hand.

Tapping Shift 5 times turns on the Sticky Keys feature. Then when I tap a modifier twice, it locks that modifier. Tapping it 1 more time releases it.

This has solved the issue for me :)

Thank you for reminding me about Sticky Keys. It's a feature that has always annoyed me in the past, when activated by mistake. I could never think of a use case for it either, but here we are.

I still think it would be a nice feature to have in Capsicain, but Stickys Keys gives me an icon in the System Tray, indicating which modifiers are currently locked, which is useful.

Edit: I have written a guide on Reddit for noobies like me. I wonder what you make of it?

Is it possible to make this 1 tap = on, 1 tap = off?

Like can it be set so that the first time I tap HOME, it taps LCTRL twice. The second time I tap HOME, it taps LCTRL once, the third time taps LCTRL twice, and so on...?
