xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu on my ghostbsd causes my 3 monitor setup to display black screens with frozen mouse pointer on each screen

So basicly i am running FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE-p8 kernel on ghost bsd. It works great on xorg but then i tried to install xlibre and so long as i don't install xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu it will boot into the desktop but then my browser will when set to maximize will span all three monitors. And then when i add the xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu i get three black screens with a mouse pointer on each screen. I do use xlibre on artix linux, (mate desktop with dinit), without issues so i know it's not a hardware failure on my end.

Then when i tried to run their new testing iso on my 3 monitor system based off of the freebsd 15 release kernel with xlibre my machine locked up. an image of that is here

i was able to get the system to boot on the testing iso but only with the 17inch monitor plugged in. If either the 19 inch montor or the 43 inch tv were plugged in it would not land at a desktoop with the live testing iso. i tried the mate and the xfce.

I was having the same problem on my Thinkpad t420. It is not related to X but I fixed in a new ISO if you want to try it.

@LizziAS Could you please attach your Xorg.0.log as a file? And could you please describe by which means you connected which monitor to your machine? I'm thinking of the topology here like which monitor is connected via the DisplayPort port of the graphics card and how are the others connected?

ok so i have a tv and two monitors on a 1 liter machine with 3 display ports. i have included xorg log and a xrandr output i have on the left a 19 inch monitor in portrait mode via display port cable, in the middle a 17 inch monitor in landscape mode connected to displayport via a vga adapter, and on the right a 43 inch scepter tv connected to displayport via an hdmi adapter (it always gets report as a 26 inch monitor even in linux)

The ticket that was create[d] for the black screen is a conflict of the DRM drivers and xf86-video-amdgpu. GhostBSD uses DRM drivers. LizziAS did install xf86-video-amdgpu.

@LizziAS Were you able to fix the problem by uninstalling xf86-video-amdgpu and switching to the DRM driver(s)?

@LizziAS We were thinking we should provide instructions on how to configure xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu manually by making sure drm firmware isn't loaded, etc to further root cause and isolate variables a bit.

On your installed system if you still have it can you share what is present for kld_list= in /etc/rc.conf? Also can you share what files exist at /etc/X11/ and /usr/local/share/X11/xorg.conf.d I can try to put something together for livecd if you would rather test that way but I think the installed system might be easier if you still have it.

/usr/local/share/X11/xorg.conf.d contains the following files:

@callmetango xlibre doesnt work correctly. not on the installed system or on the live iso. xlibre will boot without amdgpu but then all maximized windows span all 3 monitors and there is no mouse on the left monitor. with amdgpu installed i get a black screen on all screens with a frozen mouse on each screen. Thius far only xorg is working as it should. xlibre is borked.

@LizziAS is this 14.3 release p8 still running xlibre or has it been moved back to Xorg? Or can you run pkg which /usr'/local/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-amdgpu.conf to confirm whether or the xlibre pkg installed that file?

@LizziAS Based on the above if running xlibre I was just going to suggest trying the following combination.

Change this in /etc/rc.conf:

kld_list="linux linux64 cuse fusefs hgame /boot/modules/amdgpu.ko"

To this in /etc/rc.conf:

kld_list="linux linux64 cuse fusefs hgame"

Then could you try with xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu installed though it looks like it is after a reboot? We wanted to confirm whether or not the drm module being loaded in /etc/rc.conf is messing with it. Or if you can confirm if that has already been tried that would be helpful.

ok so i adjusted /etc/rc.conf as follows
rc.conf1.txt

and then i installed xlibre xlibre-drivers and xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu

and then i rebooted.

as you can see by my xrandr output:

i now only have my tv being recognized by the system and my two other monitors are not receiving any signal from the system

Interesting. So this sounds like removing the drm module from rc.conf at least changed the result from no screen at all to 1 screen works with xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu if it is installed? Before it was no screens worked with xlibre-xf86-video-amdgpu if I understand right?
