Disable autocomplete but keep ghost text from history?

I find some of completions on my machine are laggy on type, it seems the completion was triggered silently behind when typing?
I tried bleopt complete_auto_complete= but this also disabled ghost text from history.
Is it possible to evaluate completion only on Tab, but keep history completion?
