Issue Description

I don’t see a reason for the much more complex ruleset of a 3.5+ SubDomain multisite. They work quite well with the basic rules, and from what I can read out of the rules, the effective differences are minor, such as not redirecting missing files inside wp-* directories to index.php.

Examples are incomplete/corrupt.

The IfModule lines are missing around rewriterules.

This has been reported several times before in last years, why is it not fixed?

Below the Basic WP .htaccess it would be great to have an explanation which directive/rule does what and where not obvious explain why this is necessary.

In particular, why is this necessary?
RewriteRule .* – [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]

I guess it is there to ensures compatibility if PHP is run as FCGI and not a PHP module of the webserver?

Found this non WordPress-specific explanation at:
