Pluralscape Core Values

These values guide every decision — from architecture to community governance to what we ship.

Community-Driven Development

This project exists because a sole developer maintaining critical infrastructure alone is unsustainable. We reject that model entirely.

  • The codebase is open source (AGPL-3.0) from day one
  • Feature prioritization is driven by community voting, not unilateral decisions
  • Contributions from the community are welcomed and encouraged
  • We evaluate contributions on code quality, not the tools used to write them
  • Governance is transparent — major decisions are documented as ADRs

Privacy as a Fundamental Right

Users trust us with deeply sensitive and personal data. That trust is non-negotiable.

  • No telemetry or analytics without explicit opt-in
  • Data encrypted at rest and end-to-end encrypted in transit
  • User data is never sold, shared, or monetized — ever
  • Full data export available at all times — your data belongs to you
  • Full data deletion available at all times — the right to be forgotten is absolute
  • Fail-closed security — if something breaks, it defaults to maximum privacy, not exposure
  • Self-hosting is a goal — users who want full control over their data can run their own instance

Accessibility First

Plurality apps are used during dissociative episodes, panic attacks, and sensory overload. Accessibility is not an afterthought.

  • WCAG compliance is a hard requirement, not a stretch goal
  • Screen reader support is a first-class concern
  • Low-bandwidth and low-spec device support — this app must work for everyone
  • Multi-language support (i18n) from the architecture level
  • The "Littles Safe Mode" is a core feature, not an add-on

Anti-Gatekeeping

Plurality is a lived experience. We do not require a clinical diagnosis to use this platform.

  • No diagnostic gatekeeping for access to any feature
  • Language and terminology respect the full spectrum of plural experiences — avoid clinical framing, prefer community terminology
  • The app serves all plural systems — DID, OSDD, endogenic, and beyond

Therapeutic Integrity

The features that help people survive and heal are never locked behind a paywall.

  • Premium features: never. All functionality is free
  • Monetization explores an on-device-first model (similar to Obsidian) with optional paid sync if donation funding is insufficient — this is exploratory, not guaranteed
  • Cosmetic personalization (themes, avatar frames, supporter badges) may be offered as premium
  • Donations and community funding are the preferred sustainability model

Deliberate Data Lifecycle

We build systems that protect user data while respecting user agency.

  • Users can archive or permanently delete their own data
  • Deletions require explicit confirmation — no silent data loss
  • Offline-first architecture — local data is the source of truth
  • Sync only confirms via cryptographic verification

Code Quality and Inclusion

We care about what you contribute, not who you are or how you write it.

  • AI-assisted contributions are welcome — we judge the code, not the tools
  • Contributors are held to high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation
  • The community is governed by a Code of Conduct with zero tolerance for bigotry, harassment, sexism, racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, or any form of discrimination
