Use of production APP_ENV

So I tried setting APP_ENV to production in for my 2FAuth instance running on Kubernetes. Well, it started crashing. Then I realized that setting it tells 2FAuth, that commands that run, must be confirmed manually - EVEN the startup.
What is the actual use of the production environment? Thanks!

production mainly adds confirmation steps to the console commands (like migration of the db) probably to "protect" the production server from improper handling. It does not affects the way 2FAuth works.
