Nerdfonts don't work in some programs

I believe that ghostty bundles Nerdfonts. So I just need to explicitly install a Nerdfont system-wide

Actually, I'm already installing nerd-fonts.jetbrains-mono:

Using kitty --debug-font-fallback we can see that the Jetbrains Mono NerdFont is available and selectable:

The missing F590 icon in waybar

might actually be WAL

It looks like the symbol for "battery unknown" (for my bluetooth headset) was removed from NerdFonts

This is described in the NerdFonts 3.0.0 release notes:

Breaking 2: Material Design Icons Codepoints

The old Material Design Icon codepoints are finally dropped. Due to an historic mistake we placed them in between some asiatic glyphs, breaking that script. Since v2.3.0 the (updated and expanded) Material Design Icons have new codepoints in the 5 digit region.

• Dropped codepoints F500… and class names nf-mdi-*
• New codepoints F0001… and class names nf-md-*

The default configuration uses FontAwesome font, which is only available in font-awesome_4, not in font-awesome, font-awesome_6, font-awesome_5, etc.

You may simply install font-awesome_4

Still need to figure out why Firefox doesn't display Nerdfonts

I temporarily installed chromium to see if this was a Firefox-specific issue, but chromium has the same problem.

The symbols for missing characters are just empty squares, but they're still missing

The posters are pretty unhelpful and spin their wheels trying to scream that PUA symbols are font-specific without really understanding what/how Nerdfonts wants to be used

I tried manually changing the Firefox monospace font in about:settings from DejaVu Sans Mono to JetbrainsMono Nerd Font Mono, but it didn't seem to have any affect

Strangely, in Firefox itself, the Nerd Font font is getting used in the debugger, even though it's not being used on the actual webpage

If I force (by manually editing) the font into the --fontStack-monospace for the CSS, the font gets used!

This happens no matter where in the list I put the font, as long as it's before the monospace at the end (which I assume is somehow the fallback, but it's not working?)
